It’s simple. When springtime rolls around, it’s sunshine that we’re looking for, even in the simplest of details. That’s why we’re sharing four sunny decor ideas that will give your log or Timber Frame home just the boost it needs. When we’re lucky enough to have a peaceful log haven, and to be able to share its beauty each day, we may as well make it a luminous space that brings smiles to the faces of everyone who passes through.
1 – BET ON YELLOW FOR A POP OF BRIGHTNESS!
Wood is beautiful, it’s warm, and it goes with almost anything. Mustard yellow brings a royal feel to this room nestled in the loft of this home. This pop of colour brings out the beauty of the wood and makes us want to lay down on the bed and dream with eyes wide open. The light is drawn in by the duvet cover, and makes the room that much more luminous. The effect would be just as nice in a log home where the colour would bring a pop of brightness to the fairness of the logs.
2 – BRING A SPLASH OF COLOUR TO THE WALLS OF YOUR LOG HOME!
Take advantage of the change in seasons to bring a breath of fresh air to some of your spaces. It could be helpful to have one wall, a zone, that season after season sees new trendy (and affordable) pieces. In the spring, we put out brightly painted pieces of wood and place them in a structured, yet simple frame (a little weekend DIY project, perhaps?). Even better–try digging up scraps of antique wooden planks that bear witness to the passage of time and glue them together (as seen in our photo). A bouquet of seasonal followers, a colourful linen throw, do you get the idea? By filling the space with colour, the log cabin’s timeless beauty is enhanced–timeless beauty which can benefit from a little seasonal makeover without changing a thing about its foundation!
3 – INCORPORATE RATTAN ACCESSORIES TO GIVE YOUR LOG CABIN A BEACHY VIBE
Rattan has made a remarkable comeback in the last year. In small doses, well thought out doses, it adds texture, timelessness, relief and elegance to our homes. Like log homes, it has an organic feel that brings a surefire dose of beauty. Boho rattan light fixtures enhance the dining area, transporting us to a lake front cottage, where warmth and sun come out to play. Have an old rattan chair that’s lost its colour? Give it some pep with a fresh coat of paint, and you’ve got a new, kitschy piece for your home.
4 – THROW OPEN THE CURTAINS AND LET THE SUN CARESS YOUR FACE!
Whether it’s summer or winter, there’s nothing better than the soft light of the sun filling up a room, thus allowing the colors, the textures, the relief of the wood, its veins to bring us under their spell again. Sometimes a window doesn’t need curtains, because of the foliage that surrounds the home, or it’s placement, or how the room is used. We sometimes have the tendency to hide from others, even in the forest, while the forest itself is a work of incredible beauty that can blend into our decor. If you absolutely need intimacy in the evenings, maybe consider adding discrete blinds that free up the view during the day?
In brightening our interior by opening the curtains, or even better, freeing ourselves of the curtains we can take a fresh look at the beauty of the wood that surrounds us, inside our Harkins home, the same as outside.
