You don’t need to make major changes to make your log home feel brand new. Here are seven decor ideas inspired by current trends that will embellish your home and make it even more welcoming!
1. NATURAL MATERIALS
Your Scandinavian log home already offers a natural look, but why not integrate natural materials into your decor? Think wool throws and blankets, woven cotton rugs, handwoven rattan storage baskets, artisanal pottery vases… If you’re still in the design stage, you might even consider granite counters or slate flooring for a trendy look!
2. NEUTRAL TONES
Neutral tones for central elements (furniture, paint, rugs) are on trend and easily accented by coloured accessories that can easily be switched out each season. Get creative and have fun, decorating with a pretty, coloured linen tablecloth, embellished with woven natural straw doilies. You could also add a bouquet of natural flowers to the table to add life and softness to your log home!
3. LIGHTING RETHOUGHT
4. LOCAL GOURMET FINDS
More and more delicacies of the forest are available in Quebec and elsewhere. Take the opportunity to taste the terroir, but also to taste these products and use them as objects of interest and decoration. Reserve a shelf or a tray for your local product finds and take advantage of their beautiful presentation at the same time. In the Laurentides, not too far from our worksite, Gourmet Sauvage offers an array of delectable products.
5. UNUSUAL DECORATIVE PIECES
Take a trip to the flea market to find antiques to use in your home. Dust off that old typewriter or old-timey games for a rustic chic decor. Some designers use old mason jars as lanterns, and old gardening tools as decorative pieces. Have fun with what you find around you and give new life to the old objects. A great move for your wallet, the environment, and your home’s look! If you have a bit of time on your hands, refinish an old piece of furniture by painting it a colour that complements your decor. Sometimes just a few brush strokes will suffice!
6. OUTDOOR REST SPACE
Why not extend your rest and relaxation to the outdoors? Install lounge chairs or day beds beneath a wooden pergola to take advantage of the shade during the day and of warm summer nights. A mosquito net will protect you from getting bit and LED solar garlands will add a cozy vibe when the sun goes down.
7. FIRE PIT AND DINING AREA
Add a fireplace and dining area outdoors to prolong the fun. An outdoor fireplace can be used year round, while an outdoor dining area will be much appreciated in the warmer months, before the snow arrives. A propane heater will also add a few weeks to outdoor dining season in addition to offering that patio dining ambiance you won’t ever want to leave. For cooler nights, add a coloured throw to each chair that your guests can bring with them as they sit in front of the fire.
